Pyrrhotite (1180)
LOCATION
Trepca, Kosovska Mitrovica, Kosovo
SIZE
123 x 80 x 54 mm
DESCRIPTION
In the late 80ties and early 90ties minerals from Romania flooded the mineral market. When you look at the prices for Romanian minerals now, you will recognize that they become very expensive. Out of two reasons: first - after all this quantity people saw that even under these thousands of specimen was only a relatively low number of good pieces. And during the years they become more and more hard to obtain. Trepca is very similar, similar geology, the same ore-minerals like Pyrite, Pyrrhotite, Chalkopyrite etc in combination with Calcite or Quartz, also Rhodochrosite and several other minerals, which came in similar condition from both localities. But Trepca is still under-appreciated and under valued - so far, and things will change. I saw a lot of material from East Europe - I started dealing minerals with minerals from Romania, Kosovo and Russia and I really have some know-ledge about minerals and localities from East Europe. In my evaluation Trepca is on the same level or at least compare-able with Romania and Russia. And I have to note, that this is one of the most beautiful and most remarkable Pyrrhotite specimen I saw since a very long time. It is developed as floater. The Pyrrhotite developed two large aggregates - their faces are shimmering and show different, amazing visual effects depending on the angle of light. The edges are framed with grey to white sparkling Calcite crystals, which give a really wonderful contrast to the piece. The remarkable indicator is this framing and this most aesthetic assemble. No significant damages to report.
