DESCRIPTION
I think this is the most famous Wulfenite-locality world-wide. And next to Cha Kharboze Mine in Iran the only locality for red Wulfenite. Cha Kharboze mine produced some new material last year. The problem with this discovery was 1.) the prices for 2.) relatively small crystals (1cm was already exceptional) and 3.) the condition of the specimens - most not aesthetic, but damaged. Red Cloud was not productive since 2003 (there was a 3 year-period from 2000 to 2003 for specimen mining - before it was a Pb, Zn and Ag mine, but already closed in 1984. So when you look at the market now - there is nothing. No new specimen since 16 years, the market absorbed all material and all what we can hope for, is a specimen from an old collection. Since I start dealing minerals I had only 2 good specimen, including this one.
The matrix is a well formed matrix, not too flat more like a discus. Set it the center you can see a vertical, free-standing crystal in perfect condition. It is sharp terminated, with really nice texture along the edges and additional tiny faces at one corner. It also has this most appreciated red color and the faces - also at the reverse - has this mirror-like luster. There is absolutely no compromise on this piece - all indicators are at it´s best! The crystal is up to 15mm on edges.
