Fluorite, Sphalerite (1513)
LOCATION
Naica Mine, Naica, Saucillo Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico
SIZE
81 x 56 x 37 mm
DESCRIPTION
This is classic stuff from Naica. The Fluorite crystals are very clear - the main crystal at the top doesn´t show inclusions - what you see is the matrix underneath the crystal. The crystals show a modified habit of rhomb and cube. The cubic faces are highly lustrous, the faces which belong to the rhombic habit are frosted - this gives a lot of contrast and tri-dimensional impact to the specimen. A further contrast is caused by the light Fluorite crystals and the almost black Sphalerite matrix. All crystals are sharp terminated and complete - there is not one damge, neither a contact or roughness along edges - the piece is perfect. The crystals are nearly colorless with a touch of light green color. The whole assemble is very aesthetic; a sculptural arrangement with geometric character. This material was discovered over a decade ago - it´s very prominent, but since the discovery no similar material had been found - so all we have is the limited quantity of old finds. Today it´s hard to obtain and became more and more expensive. This one is out of an old collection and so it´s fairly under the common market level.
