Fluorite on Calcite (1195)
LOCATION
Collada Mine, Collada vein, La Collada, La Collada mining area, Siero, Asturias, Spain
SIZE
161 x 143 x 65 mm
DESCRIPTION
One really great classic from Spain. This is the oldest Fluorite mine of Asturias - it starts operating in 1904 and operated for about 40 years. Then it was re-opened and mining started at a second mine in the area, finally they connected both mines in a long cross-level - which became famous for amazing Fluorites in combination with Calcite.
Many specimen on the market are just clusters or they show crystals with dull faces or with less translucency. What we have here represents the locality in the very best way: the crystals are like cut glass, it is like you look in an aquaria. The faces show the very best luster you can imagine; like mirror-finished.
They show various steps of blue and dark lavender color. The center is more purple, then it turns to blue and finally there is a concentration of lavender color along the modified edges (a modification of dodecahedron), these additional faces consist of micro steps; all of them sharp and glossy.
The matrix consists of inter-grown, glossy Calcite scalenohedrons ; they are very light - nearly white with a touch of ivory color. The Fluorite group is set in the center of matrix and very exposed. The contrast is really amazing! The first photo shows the specimen under minor artificial light to show the internal color of the fluorite crystals, the second photo shows the specimen under daylight (under worst conditions in the shadow inside the room).
The specimen is in excellent condition damage-wise. Only a few small crystals along the periphery show small damages (just where it was on the rock). The center and all relevant crystals are undamaged. This is really very rare and famous material, hard to obtain in this finest quality.
PRICE
€ 6.900,– (reserved)
