DESCRIPTION
Grieswies is one of the most famous areas in Austrian Alps. It is located in Rauris Valley - over 180 different minerals were found in this valley and so it is one of the most relevant localities with wide diversity. The locality is inside the National Park „Hohe Tauern“. Field collecting is prohibited, only a few local field-collectors have a permit to dig there and after decades, yes even centuries, it became very difficult to find a new cleft. This is from a discovery by a friend last summer, he opened a small cleft with about 15 good pieces. Most were combinations of Rock Crystal and Rutile and they are pretty rare! There specimen is edveloped as floater with two sharp, water-clear and highly lustrous Rock Crystals, at the base you can see intense red-brown Siderite in a very late stage of alteration. At the right hand side and also at the backside the crystals are rich of Rutile inclusions. Thin, intense dark red and lustrous needles of Rutile are inside and also inter-grown on the faces of the Rock Crystals. Minor Pericline is also present. One of these alpine jewels - small, but very aesthetic in finest quality and with an uncommon and rare combination. Excellent piece, highly recommended.
