Fluorite (M468)
These crystals show a very uncommon habit - a so called "Ochsenauge", these are only known from Schönbrunn in Germany and from China. Further there were a fist full of pieces with this habit from New Mexico. This very small discovery from Russia in the forth relevant discovery of this material world-wide. Usually crystals grow from the center to the corner and then complete the edges and faces. An "Ochsenauge" does the opposite - it first grew to the edges - that´s the reason for the curved edges. The crystal size with 51mm across is spectacular! This habit is generally most rare - but from Russia even more special, I collect Fluorite since 2008, but never had even one of these specimen. It was in the personal collection of the famous Austrian collector and author Robert Brandstetter. Published in Lapis magazine, issue 09/2015, page 37.
