Fluorite (853)

Stubnerkogel, Gastein Valley, Pongau, Salzburg, Austria

12,0 x 8,0 x 4,8 cm

Gastein Valley is famous for alpine green fluorite octahedrons. There are several discoveries, where fluorites in different colors (mainly different shades of green), sizes and quantities have been found. This specimen comes from the new find which has just been published in the Lapis issue Jg. 42 Nr.10 Okt. 2017. This particular specimen shows very attractive apple-green color. And the faces of the fluorite octahedrons show a special feature: The slightly shining and smooth crystals are partly covered with a second layer. This rare kind of crystallization is well visible on my images. Most specimen show this second layer on only one or two crystals, but this particular specimen shows this effect on really all crystals. One of the best available specimen from this small, exceptional discovery. No significant damages to report.
